Layne In-Home Newborn Session
This sweet New Jersey family was a referral from another happy newborn photography client. They had recently purchased a new home in Montclair, New Jersey, and begun renovations. While they worked on their Northern NJ home, they were staying with Grandma and Grandpa on the Jersey Shore. Their Spring Lake home was a beautiful space that the family felt comfortable in, so this is where the session took place.
In-home newborn sessions are such a comforting option for new parents and families. While there are several reasons to choose a studio session, an in-home session offers several benefits. For example, newborn schedules can be so unpredictable that you may not want to disrupt any established routine by driving into the studio. In-home sessions also give me the opportunity to create portraits that are completely unique to the client. Whether it is a special room in the house or a furry family member, we can document sentimental memories that the family can look back on for years to come. During Layne’s session, we were able to include their pup for a few photos at the end. Between his toddler sister and the hyper puppy, there was a lot of energy in the room, and we had a lot of fun.
We chose to work mainly in the master guest bedroom because it had beautiful lighting and a large bed. During our virtual planning session via FaceTime Mom mentioned that they had taken newborn photos in NYC with their older daughter. She said that her favorite images from that session were of their baby girl on a neutral blanket. I was more than happy to incorporate her minimalist style into Layne's portraits, and I loved that she was so open to my suggestions as well. I showed mom outfits from our studio wardrobe over FaceTime for both her and her daughter. On the day of the session, I brought all of their favorites to the house. We had big sister choose her own dress. She chose a sweet dress from NoraLee, and mom wore a gorgeous dress from Nothing Fits But... The studio wardrobe makes session prep so easy on the family. Let me worry about the clothes, all that clients need to do is relax and be themselves.
