As a Morris County family photographer, I love helping families preserve each special stage of their children’s lives — and this in-home Chatham, NJ family photography session was such a joy. We gathered to celebrate baby Ryan’s 6-month milestone, a stage full of amazing expressions, gummy smiles, and those adorable chubby hands. I first photographed her as a newborn during her in-home Chatham newborn session, and it has been such a privilege to watch her grow. I’ve also had the honor of capturing her big sister’s newborn session, 6-month milestone session, and first birthday celebration. Capturing each chapter of their story in the comfort of their home makes their images feel even more personal and timeless.

6-Month Milestone Session at Home in Chatham, NJ

I absolutely love photographing babies when they are sitting up, and it’s always a treat to photograph them in the comfort of their home. Their gorgeous home in Chatham, NJ was the perfect backdrop for this family photography filled with natural and joyful portraits. With familiar surroundings, natural light pouring through the windows, and a cozy atmosphere, we were able to capture every giggle, curious glance, and heart-melting smile.

Why 6 Months is Such a Fun Age to Photograph

At 6 months, babies are often starting to sit up on their own, which opens up so many possibilities for sweet, expressive portraits. They’re curious about the world around them, respond with genuine smiles to familiar voices, and have that irresistible baby softness. They are also still playing with their feet, one of my favorite baby-baby activities to document. This stage doesn’t last long, which is why I love helping Morris County families preserve it through milestone photography.

These moments pass in the blink of an eye — and they deserve to be preserved beautifully.

Comfort and Connection in an At-Home Session

Photographing in the family’s own home means everyone — especially baby — is comfortable from the start. No rushing, no stress, and all of baby’s favorite things close at hand. It also allows us to incorporate meaningful details like the nursery, family heirlooms, or even the family pet, making the images uniquely personal.

A Family Story Told in Photographs

One of my favorite parts of being a Morris County family photographer is seeing families return year after year as their children grow. This family’s story is one I’ve had the joy of telling from the very beginning, starting with big sister’s newborn session and now continuing with her little sister’s milestones.

From Newborn Days to First Birthdays

I first met this sweet baby girl during her Chatham, NJ in-home newborn session, when she was just days old. We’ve since celebrated so many of her “firsts,” and it’s amazing to see her personality emerging with each session. For her big sister, I photographed her 6-month milestone and first birthday, creating a beautiful visual timeline of their childhoods.

Photographing Both Sisters Over the Years

Having the privilege to document both sisters means we’re building a consistent, cohesive family story. The portraits from each session work beautifully together — from the color tones to the candid, heartfelt moments — and they’ll become treasured heirlooms for this family to enjoy for generations.
