Sawyer | Chatham NJ Newborn

You may recognize Carrie from her gorgeous studio maternity session. We created a portfolio of bright and airy maternity portraits that fit this mom’s vision. She was looking for simple and relaxed portraits of her and her beautiful baby bump. Now that sweet little Sawyer had arrived, I headed to the family’s home in Chatham, NJ, to work together again.

Carrie enjoyed working in our studio previously, but she has a gorgeous home and had worked so hard on creating a stunning nursery, so we wanted to make sure we artfully documented these beautiful details and what it felt like to welcome Sawyer home. Mom loved the client wardrobe that I had available for her, and also had a beautiful dress of her own to wear. Her dress is the one in these portraits with the little yellow flowers on it. I had my preferred hair and makeup artist prepare Carrie in her home so that she could relax and get pampered without having to go out. I know that having a newborn makes everything a little more difficult, especially when it comes to running errands and taking time for yourself. I like to plan my sessions so that the clients do not have to worry about anything other than being present and being themselves. I brought several baby swaddles, a simple bow headband, and dresses for mom to their house on the day of the session. These minimalist pieces worked so well with Sawyer’s nursery and her mom’s elegant style.

Carrie knew that she wanted to design an album using the photos from this session, so in our post-session meeting, we went through the portraits and chose the ones that she loved the most. She designed a sweet album as a Christmas present for her husband and two mini albums as a gift for each set of grandparents. These mini albums are a great add-on to any heirloom album order. We are also working on designing a custom gallery wall in their home that will grow through the years. I cannot wait to continue working with this family to document their family as they change and grow.
