It is always such an honor when families choose to visit our New Jersey photography studio with their newborn for a celebratory photo session. It’s hard to imagine what you will feel when you finally become a parent, but most can guess it will be emotional, intense, and beautiful.

For first time parents, there are so many elements to think of when planning your photo session. I love to make the portrait process easy for new parents by providing everything you need in our essex county studio. We offer everything New Jersey families need for a beautiful portrait experience and stunning newborn photos including baby swaddles, wipes, and wardrobe for everyone. Our client wardrobe is always a favorite with new, busy moms. I preselected a few flowy dresses from our client wardrobe that I thought mom would love, and she selected a beautiful cream dress.

I loved meeting baby Naya and her mom and dad, Melissa and Jean. This was such a lovely and peaceful newborn session. Portraits of baby awake and looking into the camera or images of baby interacting with mom and dad are among my favorites to create during every newborn session. There are so many sweet expressions. Naya was awake when she arrived at the studio, so we started with these images and they are absolutely precious. I feel like you can see her little personality starting to emerge already.

At some point during most sessions, baby will fall asleep, and I love those images as well. As parents, when baby is awake we work so hard to make baby comfortable and happy. When they are sleeping is the time to stare in wonder at their sweetness (before hopefully getting some sleep ourselves). During a newborn session, baby’s sleep time is when I create the images that make you say “awwwwww” and smile ear to ear.

If baby needs a feed during a newborn session, we always stop for a feed. Many moms request a nursing portrait or two, and I am very happy to oblige.

Father and baby portraits are just as intimate and precious as those mommy and baby portraits. Keeping Dads in neutral toned clothing in my white studio helps to minimize distractions and provide a soft atmosphere in the studio, and portraits where emotion and connection really shine. In all of my sessions I use very natural posing, so that the focus is on the connection between the subjects and what we create for each family feels personal and unique. These are the types of images that will transport you back to this time for years to come.

It was such a pleasure to work with my amazing friend and fellow newborn photographer Camille of Camille CD Photography for this newborn session. Camille is one of the most sought-after family portrait photographers in Provence, France because she has a beautiful, clean style with timeless appeal. I loved discussing lighting and posing with Camille, and then sharing our favorite images with each other, which we individually edited. Camille is located in Aix-en-Provence, France and often books out months in advance.
