Verona Park NJ maternity portraits | Why overcast skies are wonderful for portraits

Northern NJ has no shortage of stunning outdoor maternity locations. If you are looking for one of the best maternity photography locations in Essex County, look no further than Verona Park. It is stunning all year long, but spring is particularly beautiful. This beautiful couple commissioned me to create wall worthy maternity portraits and newborn and family portraits to adore the walls of their new home. Verona Park has many beautiful open spaces for the quiet moments and gorgeous backgrounds that help make breathtaking maternity portraits. The evening of our session it was warm and overcast. While I adore golden hour sessions drenched in sunshine (see Lara’s session here as an example), I love the softness that overcast skies provide just as much. When overcast evening light is paired with a long focal length lens and wide open aperture, the resulting portraits almost have a painterly quality.
