NYC & Northern NJ Family Photographer | Joyful family portraits in the Observatory Garden

You don’t have to go far to find a lovely field for family photography when you are in Bergen or Essex County, NJ. There are nature preserves and countless natural areas that all make for very nice backdrops. But what makes the perfect outdoor location for family portraits and how far are families with toddlers and young children willing to drive to ensure gorgeous photographs? The distance, of course, is unique to every family, but the elements that make for an ideal location do not change. Parks. Why? Space! Young children need space to let out their energy and to keep their interest. In addition to usually providing a variety of interesting elements to keep young children engaged and having fun, and parks are ideal because the scenery changes throughout the seasons ensuring beautiful flowers, plants and foliage throughout three seasons. Parks with stone paths are particularly ideal because the stone will act as a reflector, reflecting beautiful light onto the family’s faces. (Have you ever noticed family’s photographed on grass often look a bit green or yellow? That is because the light reflecting off the grass takes some of that color and reflects it onto the subject’s face. Most photographers do not take the time to remove the green reflection. I do!)

When in Manhattan, traveling a little further afield for less crowded park areas is always a good investment of your time. Small parks off the beaten path or smaller sections of larger parks like Central Park and Riverside Park are perfect. They not only provide a beautiful backdrop for family photos, but a bit of privacy, which enables kids, dads and moms to let loose and be themselves.

One of the most ideal spots in Manhattan for family photography is the Conservatory Garden at the North end of the Central Park . This beautiful Bergen County, NJ family wanted a fun and easy family photography session NJ with their young children at sunset. I recommended a number of locations that would be perfect for their outdoor family session, and a lovely day in NYC was on their mind. For Central Park with small, but active kids, the Observatory Garden was a clear winner for its beautiful flowers, paths, and being generally less crowded than the rest of the park while still close to so much.

To ensure a beautiful family photography experience we did a pre-session styling consultation at the family portrait studio. Mom, dad, and both kids visited our studio to see what they might like to wear from the studio wardrobe and finding something everyone loved was simple. Our classic wardrobe ensures easy coordination and has the added benefit of contributing to beautiful, soft portraits that will look beautiful on the walls of your Bergen County home for years to come. Once selections are made, parents can relax in the days leading up to their session and look forward to a little pampering during hair and makeup time.

What is the best thing about providing studio wardrobe to clients? Studio wardrobe makes parents’ lives easy and when parents are at ease, children are at ease, and when children are at ease, beautiful photos result.
