A Sweet Studio Session: Newborn Photos with a Toddler Sibling
I was so excited to work with Madison and her family again! You may remember Maddy from her first birthday portraits in our Maplewood, NJ studio. At the time, her family lived in Manhattan and had a hard time finding a photographer with a light, natural editing style. I was thrilled when they extended their search to New Jersey and found my website.
During that first session, Mom mentioned she was expecting another baby — and now little sister Ella is here! I loved documenting this special time and creating a set of newborn photos with a toddler sibling that perfectly complement Maddy’s earlier portraits.
A Calm, Connected Newborn Session in Our New Jersey Studio
Mom loves my natural, bright and clean studio style, and she wanted images that would flow beautifully with Maddy’s first birthday portraits. Because the girls are close in age, Mom especially wanted a tender sibling portrait that captured their connection.
Maddy was absolutely adorable — curious, gentle, and full of love for her baby sister. While newborn sessions often focus on the newest arrival, some of my favorite images celebrate this very stage: the first sweet bond between siblings. These photos show just how magical it can be when a toddler joins in the newborn session.
Wardrobe Styling for Mom and Big Sister
Both Mom and big sister Maddy wore dresses from the studio wardrobe, which Mom selected during her planning appointment. On session day, I had everything cleaned, steamed, and ready to wear — one less thing for a parent to worry about.
The dress we chose for Maddy is a favorite in my collection. The white eyelet details echo the outfit she wore for her first birthday portraits, making the two sessions feel cohesive when displayed side by side in their home.
Timeless Editing for Families That Return Year After Year
One of the benefits of my natural, minimalist editing style is that your images never go out of style. Each portrait feels timeless and authentic, so families can display images from multiple sessions together seamlessly — from newborn photos with a sibling to first birthdays and beyond.
Rather than chasing trends, I focus on creating heirloom-quality portraits that your children will treasure when they’re grown. I hope these sisters will look back one day and smile at the joy, love, and connection we captured in their first portraits together.
