I loved working with these new parents and their sweet little boy, whom they lovingly call Oliver Boatie. Oliver’s mom grew up in Maplewood, NJ, where my photography studio is located, but now lives with her cute family in Morris County. She found a local artist to take Oliver’s newborn portraits, but when she found my studio, she loved the clean aesthetic of my editing style. She reached out to me shortly after seeing my portfolio to reserve dates for both a 6-month and first birthday session for Oliver.

Mom wanted to dress her family, and she chose outfits that complemented each other perfectly. While I love being able to offer my studio wardrobe to all of my clients, I fully support clients who want to choose outfits for themselves and will offer advice when it is welcome. At first, Mom was considering a shorter white button-down dress, which would’ve looked beautiful on her, but I suggested a longer dress to allow for more variety and casual images of her playing with baby Oliver on the floor. I am glad that she went with the longer dress because the photos where she is sitting against the wall with baby Oliver on her lap are some of my favorites.

Oliver has the most expressive eyebrows. It was so fun to watch him observe and explore everything. He loves to laugh and smile, especially with his dad. I loved seeing the two of them play and laugh together.

While we did his 6-month session in the studio mom decided she wanted a different look for his next session so I will be traveling to their home this fall. Mom does not like fall foliage for photos, but she loved the idea of documenting Oliver Boatie in his home while he is still a sweet little baby.

The family will be moving soon, so they were not interested in printing photos at this time, but Mom was very excited to design an album. I helped her select her favorite images from this session, and I cannot wait to put them in a beautiful album with her favorites from Oliver’s first birthday session taking place in November.
