Jack’s Newborn Session with Natural and Studio Light - Upper West Side Baby Studio Photography

When we scheduled this newborn session, Baby Jack’s family was preparing to move to their new, custom-built home in Connecticut. As all parents know, when you have a new baby, it’s so hard to keep up with all of the clutter, and your house definitely has a tendency to get messy. When you have a new baby and you’re also in the process of packing to move, you can imagine how overwhelming it would be to have your house clean enough to feel comfortable and relaxed during a photo session. Enter: my bright, clean, classic natural light photography studio right near Central Park on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Many of my clients love newborn sessions in my studio because of the neutral, timeless space—and the lack of clutter. It’s also very easy to control the lighting in my studio. I primarily shoot studio sessions with natural light, but I love having the ability to break out studio lights for creativity or in the case of bad weather. For this session, we used both studio light and natural light, and I love how these photos turned out!

Jack’s parents brought big sister along so we could capture a few photos of their cute family of four. She was very spirited, and Mom and Dad were worried that she wouldn’t be cooperative. I took a lot of very sweet portraits to warm her up to the camera, and she was so cute and cooperative. Everyone wore their own outfits at the beginning of the shoot for some very casual, relaxed images. Then mama switched into one of the dresses from my Studio Wardrobe for a few timeless and elegant portraits. I always try to make parents laugh and have a great time during a shoot, and it definitely worked out during this session. Mama was particularly thrilled about the image where she and Dad are sharing a special laugh, and she loved selecting her favorite images for display in her new home after the session.
