Welcome Dorothy | NJ Studio Newborn Session with UES Family

I adored working with this sweet and loving New York City family to welcome their second daughter, Dorothy. This was their first photography session in a portrait studio and my client loved all the details I provide that make the experience easy, including wardrobe for the whole family. We carry so many beautiful dresses for moms at all stages of their motherhood journey, as well as many beautiful outfits for big brothers and sisters. For big sister Vera, mom selected both a very pretty blush pink tutu dress as well as a slightly more casual ruffle tee and soft knit leggings. Mom changes outfits a few times (there were almost too many lovely choices!), and we paired Dad in a neutral top that blended beautifully with all their girls’ outfits. Together, their selections ensured gorgeous, classic portraits that when framed and hung will complement any home décor.

After Vera was born the family had an in-home session in their Upper East Side apartment, but mom didn’t love the results. She felt the lighting was too yellow and there was more of their home included in the images than she would’ve liked.

For this session, mom was looking for images with a classic, timeless feel to them, and loved the use of white space in my work. She also indicated she wanted to avoid stylized newborn portraits and instead focus on candid memories being made. Throughout the session I was careful to document authentic moments, and create a variety of lifestyle family portraits that captured how it felt to become a family of four. For baby Dorothy’s portraits I used baby-led posing to showcase her budding personality, as well as the evolving relationships among the family members. The clean background paired with the soft studio light created the exact vibe mom was wanted for this beautiful session.
