Madison's First Birthday

Madison’s mom reached out to me after seeing the portfolio on my blog. They live in Manhattan, but are renovating their forever home in Short Hills, New Jersey. Her daughter was turning 1, and mama was looking for a photographer to take classic birthday portraits. While the family had previously taken professional family photos in Central Park, there weren’t any individual portraits of baby Maddy from that session. She told me that she had looked all over New York and couldn’t find the style that she wanted. After expanding her search to New Jersey, she found me. While discussing her style preferences she told me, "I don’t want her put in a bowl." I get that. I don’t want to put her in bowl! While to each their own, so many photographers today have heavy editing styles, very stylized sets, and almost over-the-top props. Mom was looking for bright, clean portraits of her precious baby and a photographer with a natural editing style that would look beautiful through the years. When she described her goals I knew I was the artist to beautifully document the time for this family. I rarely use props, and when I do, they are simple and not distracting. For example, the only props used in Maddy’s session were a sweet teddy bear and an antique-style chair.

Our studio focuses on creating timeless baby an family portraits, but, just as importantly, taking good care of our clients from the time they first reach out to the time their portraits are hung up on their walls. Our New Jersey photography studio is prepared with everything that the family could need for their session. The studio wardrobe is stocked with outfit options for the entire family. This can be a huge relief to busy parents who don’t have time to find and buy coordinating pieces to wear before the session. During our pre-session consultation, I walk clients through the wardrobe and pull out a few of their favorite pieces. Then, on the morning of their sessions, I have everything cleaned, steamed, and ready to go. This client did love the studio wardrobe, but had been looking forward to purchasing something special for her baby’s first birthday portraits. Sweet Maddy wore a gorgeous heirloom-quality white dress for these portraits.

I know these classic portraits will look gorgeous on the walls of their new home in Short Hills, NJ.
